Victoria Symphony New Exploration Workshops

An innovative, 6 month program where young composers have the opportunity to work with the Victoria Symphony resident composer and a dedicated ensemble of Victoria Symphony musicians. In it's third year, this program has already seen some prize winning pieces of music created by young, talented composers.

vsNEW runs from October to March, each workshop run approximately 2 hours on Sunday afternoons.

4 of our 2009/2010 vsNEW participants were awarded for the enteries in this year's Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival:

Our vsNEW Young Composers and their results:

- Carmyn Slayter won the Junior Category

- Brandon Chow won the Senior Category

- Jared Richardson got an award for his piano composition

- Carmyn and Brandon both tied for the Adjudicators Choice for overall best
