Young Performers

The Victoria Symphony is committed to music education and gives young soloists the opportunity to perform live with the orchestra.

Each year, Maestra Tania Miller selects a young soloist to join her on the barge to perform in the Bayview Residences Victoria Symphony Splash. This concert is seen by over 40,000 people and takes place on the first Sunday in August, the BC day long weekend. Applications are open in April and May with live auditions in June.

Past Splash soloists:

2009 Christine Wong, piano; Josh Lovell, tenor

2008 Hugo Wong, piano

2007 Carolyn Tsao, piano; Sahara Sloan, soprano; Timothy Chooi, violino

2006 Kevin O'Riordan, violin

2005 Heather MacLeod, soprano

2004 Jordan O'Fiesh, violin

Every second year, the Victoria Symphony presents the Young Musicians Concerto Showcase which highlights immensely talented, young musicians on Vancouver Island. To be selected, soloists must submit an application which includes a live recording of their piece and, if chosen, they then proceed to live auditions where Victoria Symphony artistic staff as the selection committee.

This showcase is open to soloists 21 years or younger.
A repertoire list is available from which soloists MUST select their pieces.
